‘A world without landfill’. Turmec is an Irish-based expert in the design, manufacture and installation of recycling plants and equipment for the waste industry. The business specialises in the end-to-end design and build of complex waste separation and processing systems which are critical for large, efficient waste processing and recycling plants. Turmec supply plants to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by some of the largest waste management firms in the UK, Ireland and Australia. The global opportunity for Turmec is expanding rapidly in line with increased recycling rates due to environmental concerns and the pressures on landfill. Turmec is primed to benefit from this as its systems help customers to recover more high-quality material from recycled waste more efficiently. Investment in waste infrastructure is increasing significantly as consumers, companies and governments embrace the ongoing structural shift towards recycling and sustainability in the face of climate change. This momentum has allowed Turmec’s ambitious management to continue to grow the business on the back of this increased demand. Since Causeway Capital backed the Turmec management buy-out (MBO) with investment in July 2018, we have been working closely with the senior management team to help further professionalise the business and accelerate its growth. Causeway Capital has helped complement the senior leadership at Turmec with the addition of Geoff Bailey as CEO, Niall Fay as non-Executive Chairman as well as adding to the finance team. In addition, Turmec has continued to grow market share in the UK & Ireland, whilst also focusing on other international territories where it has already gained traction, in particular in Australia which is displaying attractive growth dynamics and in which Turmec have recently delivered a number of recycling plants.
