The Steel Dynamics Flat Roll Group produces hot-rolled, cold-rolled and coated steel products. We currently operate two of SDI’s six electric arc furnace steel mills, making up 8.4 million tons of the total annual production capacity of 13 million tons. SDI is currently constructing a new flat roll steel mill in Sinton, Texas, that will increase the flat roll capacity to 11.4 million tons and total capacity to 16 million tons. We produce hot-rolled coils (HRC) in a variety of gauges and grades, and can finish and coat our steel to meet our customers’ needs.
Hot-rolled Coils
We produce hot-rolled coils in widths from 36 to 76 inches and in thicknesses ranging from 3/4-inches down to 0.039 inches. We will be able to produce thicknesses up to 1 inch and widths up to 84 inches after our Sinton facility begins production in 2021. Our capabilities range from formable low-carbon grades to ultra-high-strength steels.
Cold-rolled Coils
After the hot-rolled coils are pickled, leveled and edge-trimmed, our cold-reduction mills can reduce steel thickness to as thin as 0.012 inches and as thick as 0.100 inches. Our cold-rolled coils are available in widths from 36 to 72 inches.
Metallic-coated Steel Sheet
We metallic-coat our hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel, offering galvanized, galvannealed, Galvaume®, Galfan® and Aluminized Type 1, as well as acrylic overcoat options. We offer the widest variety of metallic coatings and dimensional capabilities in the industry, including thicknesses from .0078 inches to .160 inches and widths from 24 inches to 72 inches.
Painted Steel Sheet
We can pre-paint coils with thickness ranging from .012 inches to .071 inches and widths ranging from 36 inches to 72 inches or more.
