Sierra Surgical Technologies (“SST” or the “Company”) was focused on female sterilization, the largest segment of the global contraception market. SST developed the Next-generation Advanced Tubal Occlusion (NATO) system leveraging NovaSure’s endometrial ablation technology, owned by Cytyc Corp. The NATO system had no permanent implants, required minimal anesthesia, was easy for physicians to perform (using one hand) and was expected to be compatible with future procedures (IVF, endometrial ablation).
