The Japanese company Omori Machinery Co., Ltd. (Nishikata, Japan) and Selo (Oldenzaal) signed an agreement on 18 June 2015, for a strategic cooperation. This agreement and subsequent shareholder participation of Omori in Selo raises the years-long cooperation between the two companies to a new level. From this point on, Selo will continue to operate its own existing activities under its own name, but will in addition provide a home base for Omori as Omori Europe BV. This entry into the European market through Selo offers Omori the chance to expand its strategy of globalization towards becoming the world market leader in horizontal flow pack machines. For Selo this cooperation means both a boost in revenue as well as the possibility to expand its sales network outside of Europe. Selo was founded 70 years ago and designs, builds and delivers packaging and process machines over the world to companies that specialize in food, pet food, and the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, the company specializes in artificial casings for the sausage industry. In addition to its head office in Oldenzaal, Selo has locations in Germany, the UK, Belgium, France and Denmark. Oost NL supports Omori Europe BV in its internationalization activities and nominated the company for the prestigious Deshima Netherlands Award 2015. Categories the company was nominated for were: best newcomer in the market, innovation in its sector, importance for the regional economy, and potential as Japanese investor in the Netherlands. Omori eventually won the award as “best newcomer.”
