Why Project Cece? There are many people who want to buy fair trade and sustainable clothes, but still end up in fast fashion stores. We were like this too. We found two main reasons for this: 1) Conscious clothing is often more expensive 2) Conscious clothing is more difficult to find The first we cannot explicitly do anything about, but we can for the second reason. We want to make it easier to choose for conscious clothing. There is more than enough sustainable fashion if you know where to look, but it's spread over many (relatively small) web shops. As a consumer, we often need to visit many web shops before we find the item we are looking for. How do make this process easier? By collecting all the available clothing available on one website. But has all the fashion on Project Cece the same level of sustainability? No. The fashion industry is complex and the processes between production and sales are often not transparent. That makes it extra difficult for the well-meaning customer. We also want to make this easier. In addition to the clothing items, we also collect information about the brand and, if applicable, the certifications that it meets. We present this information intuitively to the visitors so that everyone can make a well-informed choice without spending hours on the internet. How does it work? We collect fair and sustainable clothing from several web shops so that you can easily choose. But what is fair or conscious clothing actually? This is often not so easy to determine because the entire process from production to sale is often not very transparent and difficult to control. Therefore, we do not determine what is conscious and honest, but we collect the information so that you can easily choose. We categorise the products roughly in the following categories: Fair trade, environmentally friendly, locally produced, supports local communities, and vegan. We also give more information about the brand once you click the product and why it falls in the assigned category. This is what we call the SmartChoice method. Who are we? Marcella, Melissa, and Noor started this company in 2015 when they were students. Marcella and Noor have both graduated their masters in Physics, and Melissa is still studying Economics and Business. The newest member of the team is Jana, who is our German partner, that studies Textile and technology. We started this start-up because we started to think about why we bought clothes that we knew were produced in a harmful way, for humans, animals and/or the environment. Doesn't the awareness of this also create a responsibility? We think so. But it turned out to be quite hard to make conscious clothing purchases. Going through various web shops and spending hours to get information about these brands took so long that it was very demotivating. This should be easier, is what we thought. Why should anyone who wants to make a conscious purchase have to put in so much effort to find all the information? Conscious choices should be encouraged and therefore easier. We want to provide the information, and make the process of buying conscious clothing easier. That is why we started Project Cece. We have different backgrounds but share this joint mission. Our various skills come in handy. We combine the technical (programming and web development) and business knowledge together in Project Cece. As a result, we are not dependent on external companies in maintaining the website and web technologies.
