The Powerhouse story started over 14 years ago when Mike Murphy purchased a portable retail sign company including the patent rights to the proprietary signage system. Mike contacted long-time personal friends David Hargrave and Brent Teeter who were busy building impressive careers with companies like Smithkline-Beecham, Burlington Northern Railroad and Motts. Although Brent and David had honed their experience in the retail industry via large companies, Mike knew they had the entrepreneurial instincts and work ethic to help him jump-start this new technology. Mike sold Brent and David the distributor rights to the DFW, Shreveport and Tulsa markets. The partnership bolted out of the gates quickly building a healthy book of customers with their incomparable service. As the sign business grew, so did awareness of a huge need for other types of retail services including inflatable balloon advertising. At the same time, the portable sign business was seeing a decline due to new city beautification initiatives so they turned to focus on other opportunities. In 2004, an inflatable balloon manufacturer approached Mike Murphy with a huge challenge to complete a 4,000 store national rollout by installing 12 foot tall inflatable advertising balloons on the roof of every Burger King in the country. Powerhouse Retail Services was officially formed by Mike and Brent in 2004. Powerhouse Retail Services then brought Spongebob Squarepants, Darth Vader and Shrek inflatable balloons to life with 3 separate roll-outs for over 4,000 stores each. Many other national retailers were now recognizing Powerhouse as an industry leader in retail services and were presenting them with many different national projects including lighting, sign maintenance, survey and many other projects. Fast-forward to 2011, Powerhouse now employs over 250 employees servicing national projects with the same passion and commitment to excellence the company was founded on. Our Leaders: Brent Teeter- Brent Graduated from Baylor University in 1988 with a Degree in Real Estate/Finance. Over the next 15 years Brent held various management positions with Fortune 500 companies such as GlaxoSmithKline Beecham, Cadbury Schweppes, and Phillips. During this same time period Brent worked with Mike Murphy and David Hargrave on several entrepreneurial ventures. Using the infrastructure developed in a previous business, Brent and Mike started Powerhouse Retail Services in 2003. Brent has two children Maxwell Teeter (19) and Wesley Teeter (10). Mike Murphy- Mike is a native Iowan who has a BA in finance from Wartburg College in 1989 and his MBA from TCU in 1991. Mike Purchased an outdoor marketing company, Express Signs, beginning in 1996 and expanded it Nationally. The nationwide distributor network he built with Express Signs led to the Start of Powerhouse in 2003. David Hargrave- David graduated from TCU in 1989 with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and in 1991 with an Master degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing/Finance. From 1991 through 2009 David held Sr Executive positions with BNSF Railway in Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Sales. During this time, David teamed with Mike Murphy and Brent Teeter to launch several entrepreneurial ventures, with the most recent birthing Powerhouse Retail Services. In 2009, David left BNSF to support Powerhouse’s growth objectives. David is married to Christy and has 5 children; Conner, Ali, Blake, Tyler, Caitlyn. The Powerhouse Difference!
