MASCARA is based in Gellainville, France.
Created in 2014, Mascara designs, manufactures and markets innovative renewable powered water treatment systems, providing sustainable, autonomous and decentralized water access.
The first development phase resulted in the industrialization of OSMOSUN®, supplying affordable drinking/fresh water anywhere.
The OSMOSUN® technology pairs RO membranes and solar PV panels, with or without any use of batteries through a robust, easy to use and maintain patented process, with a 25 years lifespan for the solar panels.
OSMOSUN® developed by Mascara addresses a diversity of water challenges:
- Supplying drinking water from sea water for isolated islands with limited infrastructures (Small communities, Hotel & Resort, Military bases, or troop operations...)
- Alleviating recurring pressure of severe drought (e.g. Cape Town, South Africa) by supplying drinking water to local population,
- Fighting saltwater intrusion by offering alternative water sources to increasingly salty underground water sources of coastal regions,
- Developing local agriculture in areas without power grids, using local brackish water and solar resources,
- Providing sustainable process water for Industries, moving toward an independent and responsible water cycle management
- Supporting standalone supply of power and water to face water or electricity network outages, and uncertainty of end of networks
- Assisting disaster-stricken populations in emergency relief aid through fast implementation of autonomous OSMOSUN® units,
- Reinforcing local electrical energy network stability using the smart management of the flexible OSMOSUN® load on a local grid: erasing peak energy consumption, promoting off peak energy tariffs
