NirvaMed is developing a new heart-cooling technology to enhance patient outcomes after heart attacks. In the U.S., heart attacks are responsible for one of out of every seven deaths and disable 33% of the people who suffer them. Cooling the heart is an effective way to reduce cardiac damage significantly, but the process must be rapid. NirvaMed’s approach provides the highest level of local cooling to the heart and decreases its temperature in two minutes. The company has been granted four patents in the U.S. and has applied for seven patents in the U.S. and Europe. While based in Minnesota, U.S., NirvaMed maintains an industrial fellowship with the Siriraj Hospital of Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. The partnership helps to accelerate clinical development, product design, and sales reimbursement.
