Telehealth syringe exchange hybrid NEXT is a web and mail-based harm reduction platform specifically designed to meet the harm reduction supply and support needs of rural and suburban people who use drugs. Opioid overdose is the leading cause of death for people under the age of 50 in the united States. However, drug treatment, medical, and public health sectors are struggling to manage the epidemic. NEXT (Needle EXchange Technology) is a hybrid of telehealth and syringe exchange. The platform utilizes the internet to connect and engage with people who use drugs. NEXT will use the mail to provide concrete harm reduction supplies such as naloxone, fentanyl testing strips, clean syringes, and other materials to keep people who use drugs safe and alive. NEXT will support its users by providing educational content, chat support, and connections to local and national resources. NEXT will move the needle on the opiate epidemic in the United States and create a wealth of public health intervention opportunities.
