Founded in 1986, MPLC has grown to become the largest non-theatrical TV and movie licensing company in the world. MPLC aggregates the public performance rights for audio-visual programmes (such as films and TV series) and sells them via its Umbrella Licence® that enables licensees to legally show that content in a public or commercial environment (such as waiting rooms, bars & restaurants, coaches and leisure centres).
MPLC legalises the millions of public exhibitions around the world, enabling rightsholders to access a global paying customer base that it would be uneconomical for them to try and monetise alone, and giving licensees insurance against IP breaches.
MPLC benefits from the network effect of rights from c.1000 rightsholders aggregated over 30 years, including the major film studios and TV producers, and has a global, sticky customer base of over 100,000 accounts across 31 countries.
Tenzing has backed the management team, led by Mike Weatherley, and will support them in their ambition to continue scaling the business. This will involve growing the New Business team significantly, investing into world-class technology, and expanding into new countries, to build on MPLC’s position as the world market leader in this sector.
