Magic Shields develops, manufactures, and sells “Koroyawa”, a soft floor that reduces the risk of bone fractures. About 250,000 older adults fracture their femur every year. Fractures caused by falls are the third leading cause of needing nursing care, and the pain of the fracture and the life that awaits afterward can be a significant burden for the elderly themselves and their families.
Magic Shilds’ “Koroyawa” is designed and manufactured based on the concept of mechanical metamaterials. Its internal “variable rigidity structure” enables it to absorb shock and reduce the risk of femur fractures by sinking significantly only when falling from a chair or bed, transferring to a wheelchair, or falling from walking.
