Gridworks has been established by CDC as a dedicated developer and investment platform for electricity network investments, focused primarily on Africa.
We are backed by an initial commitment of more than $300 million from CDC, and the support of the UK Government and its Department for International Development (DfID).
We develop and then invest in critical electricity network infrastructure, whether on or off-grid. This includes utility concessions, public private partnerships, management contracts, rural electrification programmes, isolated grid systems, off-grid-to-on-grid investments, and utility services companies.
Working with governments, multilateral organisations and other investors, we bring flexible, patient capital to the sector. This is matched with considerable industry expertise stemming from CDC’s experience across the transmission and distribution spectrum. Over time, our work will accelerate the delivery of affordable, reliable power to people and businesses who need it.
