EnergyBank is a Deep Ocean Gravitational Energy Storage company. Founded by a young and passionate team of mechanical engineers out of University of Auckland, they are developing a low-cost, scalable electricity storage technology with very high round-trip efficiencies with the aim of catalysing grid decarbonization. The Company’s solution involves deployment of mass produced floating units (buoys) in deep ocean next to high population metropolitan areas.
EnergyBank addresses a global issue of renewable energy being uneconomic at scale. Their energy-storage-as-a-service offers significantly larger scale and lower cost (<10%) of what’s currently available. The company is at prototype stage and we participated in their seed round.
