Curadite is committed to addressing two prevailing challenges facing Healthcare today: substance abuse prevention and medication adherence. These problems transcend headlines, affecting millions of patients, their families and their healthcare providers. The number of healthcare workers suspected of controlled substance abuse in the U.S. 10-15 percent, which reflects those found in the public at large. In addition to the human cost of abuse, a report from The Council of Economic Advisers estimates the economic cost of the opioid crisis in 2015 was $504 billion. The New England Institute of Health (NEHI) estimates that total potential savings from adherence and related disease management could be $290 billion annually — 13% of health spending. Others have determined that poor medication adherence results in 33% to 69% of medication-related hospital admissions, at a cost of roughly $100 billion per year. Finally, adherence is lowest among patients with chronic illnesses. Our Medication Management Platform (MMP) utilizes a reusable Internet of Things (IoT) communication module tied to disposable, sensor-enabled packaging. The MMP monitors and records access to controlled substances to prevent diversion in healthcare settings (e.g. Skilled Nursing Facilities). The MMP also supports medication adherence with alerts for patients, their loved ones or healthcare providers when medication is not taken as prescribed. Studies have shown that better at home medication adherence is often the difference between a successful medical outcome and an expensive hospital re-admission. If we can improve adherence by 10%, health spending could be lowered by $40 million dollars a year. The healthcare market is primed for a breakthrough technology capable of demonstrating the potential of the Internet of Things to guide patient adherence behavior, improve their clinical outcomes, while generating significant savings.
