Policy-makers want to target social programmes to areas of greatest need. Not-for-profit service providers want easy access to information about the changing nature of communities they work in. Local councils want to understand their population to provide services that meet their needs. Philanthropists want to invest in communities that need development. Businesses want to know the demographics and needs of the people in the areas they establish their operations. For the first time, a new tool from the UK will enable non-expert users to easily create social profiles of the communities they work with.
In 2013, UK housing think-do-tank HACT and social policy data experts OCSI launched Community Insight. It is a web-based tool that allows users to explore social indicators of need quickly and easily, using constantly-updated, reliable, geo-coded data. Both organisations are social enterprises and keen to support the translation of the tool to Australia.
We're currently looking for foundation partners - organisations that want to throw their hats in the ring early and come with us on the journey to develop a tool that works for them.
