CeraByte is a novel technology that heralds a new paradigm for data storage in data centers. According to statistics by AWS about S3 data storage and data retrieval: the likelyhood of data to be retrieved after 4 weeks is 0.1 %. That means 99.9 % of data turned cold already within a month after creation. However, for fast access in case needed they are kept on constantly spinning HDD or even SSD. Stored for decades these data permanently consume energy and cause emission of GHG. Additionally, due to their limited service life, the storage media regularely need to be replaced which produces megatons of electronic waste. It looks like as if the majority of data are stored on the wrong media. CeraByte is a new technology for data storage with unlimited lifetime even under extreme conditions. CeraByte consumes no energy with a TCO 75% lower than HDD (60% lower than LTO). Cerabyte combines technologies and materials that are already widely used or produced in vast amounts, therefore a short time-to-market allows CeraByte technology to be deployed in data centers by 2025.
