CalendarTree was born in 2011 during a high school sports banquet in Pleasanton CA. Two dads stood in the back trying to stay awake while the coach droned on about the wonderfulness of every kid. “I’d like to recognize Ashley for being a carbon-based life form for the entire season. Good job, Ashley!”

In the back of the room, the dads’ chatted about their shared frustration in keeping their calendars updated with all of the games, practices, and meetings of their overcommitted families. Wasn’t there some way to click a link and add those team schedules to a personal calendar?

So the two dads decided to fix the problem themselves. How hard could it be?

It turns out it was really, really hard. Most people would have known that. Luckily for you, one of the dads is an IRONMAN athlete on weekends, so he doesn’t have any common sense about what sorts of things are hard. You could say to Quin, “How about going for a 26-mile run?” and he’d ask if you have time for a swim and a bike ride after. The other founder, Scott, is the creator of Dilbert. He doesn’t know what state he lives in half of the time. Neither Quin nor Scott were competent enough to design and program a solution to the schedule problem, so they came up with a plan: They would find smart people who know how to do things. Then they would cling to those smart people like barnacles on a speedboat. Later, when the time was right, they would scurry to the front of the parade and take credit for leading it.

Quin and Scott teamed up with BlueChilli, a technology venture company based in Australia. After two years of testing, debugging, and refining the user interface, CalendarTree.com went live.

We know that entering schedules into calendars isn’t the biggest problem in the world. But the founders of CalendarTree don’t know how to do anything more important. If they knew how to invent renewable energy sources or cure diseases they would totally be doing those things. With any luck, CalendarTree will save you a bit of time that you can use to solve those bigger problems. We’re counting on you. And thanks in advance for doing all of that. Quin says to tell you it doesn’t look hard.

CalendarTree is the easy (and polite!) way to create and share schedules that users can add to their personal calendars with a few clicks. No sign-in is required for people to accept the schedules you wish to share.
