he Better Schools Project is an enterprise with a strong social mission; we want to empower every school in the UK to achieve best value when purchasing goods and services. The company was borne out of a frustration that schools were continually at the receiving end of bad deals from suppliers. At the same time, many good suppliers weren't getting penetration into schools. At the core is a passion to give schools corporate level quality procurement. Managing Director Doug Haines was a teacher for five years in London secondary schools, reaching a number of management positions. Before teaching he worked in the city for Deutsche Bank. His vision is for schools to have the high quality level of procurement that big companies can achieve – not matter how small the school. The Better Schools Project can manage the entire procurement process for a school, helping them write the brief, selection criteria and tender document before searching for and thoroughly vetting three companies for the position. This managed solution allows the school to get the best deals in the market whilst creating a paper trail for governors and inspectors. We will search for a supplier no matter how large or small the job, and if a school is a client of The Better Schools Project they will have access to a personal account manager on hand and ready to discuss the school's needs at any time. The company has grown steadily and recently received a round of funding to expedite their growth and increase their client base and the quality of their provision.
