ActivAided Orthotics LLC was founded in 2011 by a team of Carnegie Mellon undergraduates and a doctor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UPMC after working together on a project for the students’ senior biomedical engineering design course. The team of 6 engineers, most of which were varsity athletes at Carnegie Mellon, set out to revolutionize the method of rehabilitation for active and athletic people with acute back injuries or chronic low back pain.
