DreamBig Semiconductor Inc., a San Jose-based company specializing in high-performance accelerator platforms, recently closed a $75 million Series B funding round. The round was led by Samsung Catalyst Fund and the Sutardja Family, with new investors like Samsung, Hanwha, Event Horizon, and Raptor joining in. Existing stakeholders, including UMC Capital, BRV, Ignite Innovation Fund, Grandfull Fund, and others, also contributed to the funding.

DreamBig plans to use the funds to speed up the development and commercialization of products based on its innovative Chiplet Hub™ and Platform Chiplets. Led by CEO Sohail Syed, the company is focused on creating a chiplet platform that enables modular semiconductor solutions, particularly in applications like large language models, generative AI, data centers, edge computing, and automotive sectors.

The Chiplet Hub™ and Networking Chiplets offer unique capabilities, including universal architecture support for various chiplets, memory-first architecture for direct memory access, FLC Technology Group hardware acceleration, DMA hardware for efficient data transfer, virtual PCIe/CXL switch for resource allocation, Ethernet/UEC RDMA hardware for scalability, and low-power Content Addressable Memory for processing at high speeds.

DreamBig's MARS Platform, an open chiplet platform introduced in January, aims to revolutionize the development of high-performance semiconductors using advanced 3D high-bandwidth memory technology. This platform allows customers to focus on specific capabilities while leveraging the cost benefits of open standard chiplets, enabling them to create specialized computer chips for tasks like generative AI, automotive, and edge applications.

The MARS chiplet standard addresses key challenges faced by companies in building AI servers and accelerators by providing direct access to both static and dynamic memory tiers. This enables rapid data movement, caching, and processing for compute, accelerator, or networking chips, depending on the application.

DreamBig's innovative approach has garnered recognition in the market, with co-founder and CEO Sohail Syed emphasizing the company's transformative impact on the AI and data center infrastructure market. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.'s Marco Chisari believes that chiplet-based AI solutions are crucial for meeting the demands of intensive workloads and memory-bound applications.

DreamBig's successful funding round is part of a larger trend in the AI chip industry, with several startups raising significant amounts to develop cutting-edge technologies. The company's focus on open chiplet platforms and modular solutions positions it as a key player in the evolving semiconductor landscape, driving innovation and efficiency in AI and data center infrastructure.
