OpenAI is on the verge of achieving the next level of artificial intelligence, with the ultimate goal being level 5. The company has created a scale to measure the evolution of its AI systems, with current chatbots still at level 1 out of 5. However, OpenAI claims to be progressing towards level 2.

OpenAI's spokesperson revealed to Bloomberg that the current ChatGPT falls under level 1, capable of interacting with people using conversational language. At level 2, AI would be able to solve basic problems in the same way a human with a Ph.D. would, without access to any tools.

According to OpenAI's scale, level 3 would involve AI agents capable of taking actions on behalf of a person for several days. At level 4, AI systems would be able to independently create new innovations without relying on existing ideas.

The pinnacle of evolution would be level 5, where algorithms reach artificial general intelligence (AGI). In OpenAI's definition, AI systems at this level would outperform humans in tasks and be capable of handling the work of an entire organization.

OpenAI aims to achieve AGI before 2030, with CEO Sam Altman believing it could happen in the next four to five years. The company envisions a future where AI could enhance the global economy, expand scientific knowledge, and improve the quality of life for billions of people.

However, concerns about reliability, security, ethics, and job displacement remain for humans. With AI already impacting job markets at level 1, further reductions in employment could occur with technological advancements. Additionally, AI has yet to prove its reliability across all tasks.

These concerns have caught the attention of governments, with Brazil taking action against Meta for using user data to train algorithms and Anatel seeking explanations from Vivo regarding AI use in customer service.

In the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, the journey towards AGI raises both excitement and apprehension about the future implications of advanced AI technology.
