Sony to Cut 250 Employees in Optical Media Production Team Sony Group will reduce around 250 positions in its key optical media production center in northeastern Japan, where 670 employees are currently employed. The affected employees will be offered early retirement options. These layoffs come amidst declining demand for traditional data storage formats like Blu-ray discs. Sources indicate that Sony will gradually halt the production of optical media, including these discs. Earlier, Sony announced the dismissal of approximately 900 employees from its PlayStation division, affecting 8% of the company's workforce. The layoffs impacted several studios, including Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, and Firesprite. Naughty Dog is known for titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us, Insomniac Games for Marvel’s Spider-Man series, Guerrilla Games for Killzone and Horizon, and Firesprite for The Playroom and other titles.
