On the occasion of World Motorcycle Day, Autoliv, the renowned leader in automotive safety systems, and the UN Road Safety Fund have announced a renewed collaboration aimed at enhancing motorcycle safety on a global scale. This strategic partnership is rooted in the shared goal of reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries, with a specific focus on the alarming rise in motorcycle-related fatalities.

The Global Status Report on Road Safety 2023 paints a stark picture, revealing that the number of motorbikes and scooters has nearly tripled since 2011, with these vehicles accounting for a significant 21% of global road traffic deaths. These statistics underscore the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the safety challenges faced by motorcyclists worldwide.

Mikael Bratt, the CEO of Autoliv, emphasized the importance of partnerships and collaborations in tackling the global burden of road traffic deaths and severe injuries. By leveraging insights from the global road safety community and sharing their expertise as a leader in automotive safety, Autoliv aims to significantly improve safety for motorcyclists and other vulnerable road user groups.

Through the exchange of insights, knowledge, and data, the collaboration between Autoliv and the UN Road Safety Fund seeks to empower the global road safety community, including UN agencies, NGOs, and technology providers, to collaborate effectively and drive the necessary changes to enhance road safety for all.

Nneka Henry, the Head of the UN Road Safety Fund, highlighted the need for a global, multi-stakeholder approach to address the rising number of motorcycle fatalities. She welcomed Autoliv's renewed commitment and leadership in tackling this critical challenge, emphasizing the importance of combining resources and expertise to develop and implement effective solutions that prioritize the safety of all road users.

The commitment of Autoliv to enhancing motorcycle safety represents a significant step towards the upcoming Road to Morocco High-Level Pledging Forum, scheduled to take place during the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in February 2025.

To further explore and address critical motorcycle safety issues and solutions, Autoliv and the UN Road Safety Fund will co-host a roundtable discussion on strengthening motorcycle safety globally on June 25, 2024. This hybrid event, to be held both online and onsite at the UN office in Geneva, will provide a platform for experts to delve into key challenges and solutions to make motorcycling safer for individuals worldwide.
