In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded that Ukraine must withdraw its troops from the east and south and drop its bid for NATO membership to start peace talks. This ultimatum has drawn anger and rebukes from Kyiv and the West, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy comparing Putin's demands to those of Adolf Hitler. The two countries have been locked in a bloody conflict for over two years, with no direct peace talks held since the initial weeks of Russia's campaign.

Putin's demands include Ukraine's complete withdrawal from certain regions, which are still under Ukrainian control, as well as renouncing plans to join NATO. He has called for Ukraine to adopt a neutral, non-aligned, non-nuclear status, demilitarization, and de-Nazification. However, Kyiv has rejected these demands, seeing any halt in fighting on Moscow's terms as an opportunity for Russia to regroup for another attack.

The international community, including the G7 leaders, has expressed solidarity with Ukraine and committed to supporting its fight for freedom and reconstruction. Despite Russia's dismissal of peace initiatives, Ukraine is set to outline its own peace agenda at a major summit in Switzerland, where it hopes to rally international support.

As the conflict continues to escalate, with Russian attacks intensifying and Ukrainian forces facing shortages, the battle for peace talks remains a challenging and complex endeavor. Putin's demands and Ukraine's response highlight the ongoing struggle for a resolution to the conflict and the importance of international support in achieving lasting peace.
