Apple recently introduced "Apple Intelligence," a suite of AI-powered features for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. These features include email summaries, image and emoji generation, and Siri taking actions on your behalf. The emphasis is on privacy, with a combination of on-device and cloud processing. Apple Intelligence will be widely available later this year, with a beta test for developers this summer.

During a livestream WWDC keynote, Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted the company's use of machine learning and the introduction of large language models (LLMs) to enhance Apple products. Last year, Apple avoided the term "AI," but this year, they coined "Apple Intelligence" to encompass machine learning, LLM, and image generation technologies.

The Apple Intelligence features require specific devices and settings, including Siri enabled and set to US English. These features prioritize notifications, provide writing tools for text summarization and editing suggestions, and generate personalized images for contacts. Siri's capabilities have also been enhanced to understand nuanced requests and perform tasks on behalf of the user.

Privacy is a top priority in the implementation of Apple Intelligence, with on-device processing and "Private Cloud Compute" for complex requests. Siri has a new look and improved intelligence, able to maintain context between requests and perform actions related to on-screen information. The redesigned Siri can execute hundreds of new actions across Apple and third-party apps, enhancing user experience and productivity.
