Vivek Sinha, the ex-COO of Unacademy, has stepped into the entrepreneurial arena with his new startup, Beyond Odds Technologies, securing a hefty $11 million in seed funding. The investment, led by Matrix Partners India and Lightspeed, marks a significant milestone for Sinha's latest venture.
Beyond Odds Technologies, based in Bengaluru, is on a mission to revolutionize employability-led training, certification, and recruitment services for the grey-collar workforce. By bridging the gap between employers and student talent, the startup aims to reshape the landscape of workforce development.
Emversity, the flagship higher education brand under Beyond Odds Technologies, is set to make its debut in Bengaluru on April 20, with plans for expansion to six additional centers in cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Nagpur, Kochi, and Ranchi by June. These centers will offer a range of bachelor's degree programs and certification courses in collaboration with esteemed universities.
The inaugural cohort at Emversity will focus on healthcare-related programs, with strategic partnerships with industry giants like Fortis Hospitals and Core Diagnostics to facilitate job placements and internships for students. Sinha's departure from Unacademy in 2023 paved the way for his entrepreneurial journey, following a successful stint as the business head at Oyo.
The funding round for Beyond Odds Technologies saw participation from a stellar lineup of investors, including key industry players like Ritesh Agarwal (OYO), Gaurav Munjal (Unacademy), Mayank Kumar (Upgrad), Ramakant Sharma (Livspace), and more. The startup's vision to address the skills gap in sectors such as healthcare, education, hospitality, and construction has garnered widespread support and enthusiasm within the investor community.
Emversity's innovative approach to workforce development includes 'built-in income' courses, 'work abroad integrated' modules, and extensive placement assistance, ensuring that candidates are equipped with the necessary skills and opportunities to thrive in the competitive job market. With a focus on the healthcare industry for the current academic year, Beyond Odds Technologies is poised to make a significant impact on India's youth and the growth of key industries.
Rajat Agarwal, Managing Director at Matrix Partners India, commended Sinha's vision and leadership in establishing pioneering institutions like Emversity, highlighting the startup's commitment to preparing India's youth for the workforce and driving growth in emerging industries. Beyond Odds Technologies' entry into the edtech space signals a new chapter in the evolution of workforce development and education, setting the stage for a future where talent meets opportunity seamlessly.
