Amwoodo, a Kolkata-based startup, recently secured $1 million in funding from Rainmatter, a venture fund backed by Zerodha. The company, founded in 2019 by Agni Mitra, specializes in creating sustainable bamboo products like combs, toothbrushes, razors, and more. Mitra saw a gap in the market for high-quality bamboo products in India, which were mostly imported from China. This led him to start Amwoodo, sourcing bamboo from local farmers in the northeast and working with artisans to create top-notch products. The company's sales skyrocketed to Rs 21.72 crore last year, with a goal of reaching Rs 60 crore this year. Amwoodo's success highlights the growing demand for sustainable products in India, with other players like Allter, Boocane, and Beco also making waves in the market.
