The world is facing an existential threat from runaway climate change and the industries on which our modern societies are built such as cement, steel, chemicals, glass, paper and ceramics are responsible for more than a fifth of all greenhouse gas emissions.
These energy-intensive industries face a perfect storm of low margins, growing carbon prices and pressure to decarbonise. But proposed solutions such as green hydrogen and carbon capture are too costly and a long way from maturity.
We can’t wait: the world needs solutions that work today, not in years or decades.
