15 years ago, our founder Cory McDonald nearly lost his father to celiac disease. Due to lack of awareness and diagnoses, his father lost 50 pounds in 5 months! Celiac disease (CD), also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects at least 1 in 133 Americans. The "gluten" in wheat, barley, rye, and a much lower amount in oats* (WBRO), contain particular amino acid sequences that are harmful to persons with celiac disease leading to severe gastric district distress and over time a boatload of other maladies. On top of all this, you can?t drink beer anymore!
We know that the time is now for 5 O?Clock. We want to give people great beer, gluten free and gluten full, and to those that have lost it, bring back the joy of beer. God?s greatest creation!
We are driving hard on opening 5 O'Clock Brew Co., Philly's first and only Gluten Free brewery. In addition to gluten free brews, 5 O'Clock will be brewing a full line of gluten full beers.
